Who is Phil Mickelson, the oldest major winner in golf history

Phil Mickelson, who was crowned as the oldest major winner in the history of golf, is a left-handed sportsperson who secured his sixth major title at the Kiawah Island PGA Championship.

The American golfer was born on June 16, 1970 in the city of San Deigo, California. He went on to give become a golf professional about two decades later in 1992.

The major titles secured by the 50-year-old include the PGA Championship in 2005 and 2021, the 2013 British Open and 2004, 2006, 2010 Masters. He also holds 45 US PGA titles, collected throughout his decades-long career.

Mickelson currently holds the 115th position in the world, however, his highest point so far was touching the second rank.

The record broken by Mickelson on Sunday was previously held by Julius Boros, who captured the 1968 PGA Championship at age 48.

Golf legend Tiger Woods congratulated Mickelson on the achievement. He wrote on Twitter, “Truly inspirational to see @PhilMickelson do it again at 50 years of age. Congrats!!!!!!!.”

After being crowned as the oldest major winner in golf, Mickelson said, “This is just an incredible feeling. I just believed it was possible but everything was saying it wasn’t.” He added, “I hope others take that inspiration. It might take working on your skills but, God, is it worth it.”
