Sharelle Johnson is now facing charges of culpable negligence after her 11-year-old son allegedly injured two teenagers in a shooting during a Pop Warner football practice in Apopka on October 2. State Attorney Andrew Bain announced the arrest, highlighting the serious consequences of negligence in firearm storage.

According to the state attorney’s office, Johnson’s son obtained the firearm from an “unsecured cardboard box left in her vehicle.” The box, described as worn and tattered, lacked safety locks or fasteners, making the weapon easily accessible to the young boy. Two 13-year-olds were injured in the incident, leading to the arrest of the 11-year-old on charges of attempted second-degree murder.
