Benigeri, a 19-year-old student at the Lindner School of Business, University of Cincinnati, Ohio, was discovered deceased under circumstances that have prompted an ongoing police investigation. This event has raised considerable alarm and sorrow within the Indian diaspora, prompting calls for a deeper look into the safety and well-being of Indian students abroad.

Shreyas Reddy Benigeri was pursuing a major in Business Statistics, showcasing his ambition and dedication to his academic pursuits. Before his journey to the United States, Benigeri completed his BTech from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, in Rajasthan, India.

The death of Shreyas Reddy Benigeri follows closely on the heels of two other alarming incidents involving Indian students in the US:
Days before Benigeri’s death, Neel Acharya, an Indian-origin student pursuing a double major at Purdue University, was found dead near the university’s airport. The circumstances of Acharya’s death remain mysterious, with an autopsy revealing no signs of trauma, leading authorities to rule out foul play at this stage. The Tippecanoe County Coroner’s Office is awaiting toxicology results to determine the cause of death.

In a separate incident, Vivek Saini, a 25-year-old MBA student in Georgia, was brutally murdered by a homeless drug addict in Lithonia, Georgia. Saini, who was working part-time at a convenience store, had offered food, water, and warm clothes to the attacker in the days leading up to the fatal incident. The attack, caught on camera, showed the assailant striking Saini nearly 50 times with a hammer, highlighting the grave dangers some students face.
