Tragedy struck over the Thanksgiving weekend as Carl James Mueller III, a 29-year-old musician known professionally as “C.J. Mueller,” and a former resident of Passaic County, was fatally stabbed in Philadelphia. The incident occurred early on November 24, with Mueller succumbing to a chest stab wound, according to the Philadelphia Police Department.

Mueller had been reported missing a day prior to the discovery of his lifeless body in the 1400 block of Snyder Avenue at 3:14 a.m. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene. Mueller contributed to various bands, including Joy Ride, The Angry Pirates, Coming in Clutch, and his family’s musical group, The Flying Mueller Brothers.

Remembered for his warm smile, tireless sense of humor, love for music, passion for skateboarding, sushi enthusiast, and distinctive head of hair, Mueller left an indelible mark on those who knew him. In a Facebook post on May 29, he announced a band name change from Joy Ride to Coming in Clutch, emphasizing his continuous dedication to music and collaboration with fellow musicians.

Mueller’s recent performances, including one at the Bitter End on Bleecker Street in Manhattan on November 10 and a birthday celebration at Jimmy’s Restaurant & Lounge in Kearny on November 18, showcased his commitment to his craft. Despite his travels and exploration of various cities, Mueller expressed a heartfelt connection to North Jersey, noting that, while he appreciated Philadelphia, his heart would always belong to the vibrant music scene in his hometown.
