Misrach Ewunetie, a
20-year-old Princeton University student, was found dead in campus on Thursday,
police said. There are no obvious signs of injury and Ewunetie’s death “does
not appear suspicious or criminal in nature,” according to authorities. An
official cause of death will be determined after a medical review.

What
happened to Misrach Ewunetie?

Misrach Ewunetie was
last seen alive walking to her dorm room at Princeton early morning on October
14, school officials say. When her roommate returned to the dorm an hour and
half later, Ewunetie wasn’t there. Her brother Universe Ewunetie said her phone
last pinged at around 3 am the same day at a 30-minute walk from her dorm.

He further said that he
had learned from her roommates that Misrach had attended an event with the
Terrace Eating Club in campus. People who were part of the eating club said
they had seen Misrach volunteer that day and return home, according to her
brother.

A search ensued.

She was later found
dead at around 1 pm on Thursday, October 20 behind the tennis courts on campus.

Who was
Misrach Ewunetie?

Misrach Ewunetie was a
junior pursuing a degree in sociology along with a computer applications certificate.
Ewunetie was a valedictorian at Villa Angela-St. Joseph high school in
Cleveland, Ohio. She subsequently accepted a full scholarship to Princeton
University.

Ewunetie’s family is
originally from Ethiopia. The 20-year-old grew up in Ohio. She was described as
five feet and four inches tall, weighing around 130 pounds, with brown eyes,
black hair and a light brown complexion.

After her body was
found following an extensive sweep of the campus by law enforcement, Princeton
University Vice-President W Rochelle Calhoun said, “Misrach’s death is an
unthinkable tragedy. Our hearts go out to her family, her friends and the many
others who knew and loved her.”
