The sheriff announced on Friday that two minors were in jail in relation to the killings of three teens in Ocklawaha, Florida, and that the third suspect, also a minor, is still at large.
Layla Silvernail, the first victim, was discovered shot on a roadside on March 30, according to Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods.

Who were Layla Silvernail and Camille Quarles?
Born in 2007, Layla Silvernail and Camille Quarles were shot in a car along on March 30, 2023 in Ocklawaha, Florida.
The sheriff reported that Silvernail’s automobile was discovered in a pond about 9 miles from where she was discovered, half submerged, one day after she had passed away. According to the sheriff, the third victim, a 16-year-old female, was discovered inside the trunk with a gunshot wound.

Silvernail was alive when she was found but later succumbed to injuries.
At a news conference Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods, Woods revealed that the three victims were all connected to gangs and engaged in robberies and break-ins.
The victims and their accused killers were allegedly responsible for a recent cases of robberies and burglaries in the small Florida town.
Detectives were able to ascertain that the three young victims were in a vehicle owned by Silvernail prior to their killings, before being dropped in different areas over a three-day period. According to the sheriff, a witness heard a succession of gunshots at the time, leading authorities to assume the adolescents were all slain at the same time.

The discovery was followed hours later by the discovery of an unidentified 17-year-old victim on the side of a road less than a mile away. Camille Quarles, 16, was discovered inside Silvernail’s automobile, which was partially buried in a pond.
Woods stated that the homicides were “gang-related” and that “each were associated with a gang in some shape or form.” Fears that a serial murderer may be on the loose near Ocklawaha, Florida, due to the proximity of the crimes were quickly dispelled by authorities.
