It’s the national month of hot dogs and July 21 is the national day of hot dogs. According to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council, hot dogs are one of America’s favourite foods. Easy to cook and easy to eat, you can eat hot dogs any day, any time, throughout the year.
As you celebrate the national day of the hot dogs by ordering them from famous chains, here’s an honest attempt to take you into your kitchen so that you can conjure up your own juicy hot dog in more than one way.
First and foremost, the selection of meat is important. You should always opt for non-processed meat, with no artificial flavours and no by-products.
Pan-Frying
This technique always ensures a plump interior and a crispy exterior. This allows you to control the level of golden brown you want.
Start by putting half an inch of water in a frying pan and let it simmer on medium-high flame. Add hot dogs to the pan and let them steam for a couple of minutes.
After the steaming process, remove the lid from the pan and let the water boil dry. Roll your hot dogs around for a few minutes to get them brown on all sides.
Grilling
If you love char marks and smoky flavour, this one is for you. Turn on your grill. But make sure that one side of your grill is hot and the other side is cool.
Start cooking the hot dogs, one minute on either side, on the cooler side of the grill. Following this, transport your hot dogs to the hotter side of the grill and wait until you get the desired colour.
Oven-Roasting
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the hot dogs on a cookie sheet and cook them for 15 minutes. As they sizzle and start turning brown, take them out of the oven. All depends upon the desired colour you want.
Microwave
To microwave, wrap the hot dog in a paper towel before cooking it for 30 seconds. Covering it with a paper towel ensures that the hot dog converts into a plump and juicy dog.
