Britain’s Prince Philip is expected to remain in hospital, where he is receiving receiving treatment and undergoing heart tests, till the end of the week at least, the Buckingham Palace has said. The 99-year-old royal has been under medical supervision for the past two weeks, since he was admitted to a London hospital after experiencing health issues.

Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh and the husband of Queen Elizabeth, was on Monday transferred from the King Edward VII hospital to the St Bartholomew’s Hospital, renowned for its excellence on cardiac care, to get tested for a pre-existing heart condition and treated for an unspecified infection, news agency Reuters reported.

The fortnight Philip has spent in hospital is the longest he has been in medial care.

Edward, Philip’s youngest son, said last week that his father was feeling a lot better. And while the Buckingham Palace has assured he is comfortable and is responding to treatment, it said he is expected to remain in hospital till the end of the week at least.

The Queen is currently at Windson Castle, west of London – where the royal couple have spent the duration of the coronavirus lockdown – and has been carrying out her official duties remotely.

Both the Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip have received their first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Philip’s son and heir Prince Charles has visited his father at the King Edward VII hospital, although there are more stringent restrictions for visitors at the St Bartholomew’s, who are permitted inside clinical areas for very limited reasons, like seeing a patient at the end of the life.
