Popularly known as German Shepherd, the dog breed’s name was changed to Alsatian Wolf dog in 1919 by the British Kennel Club because they did not want to associate with anything German during the World War I.

The dog breed finds its origin in Germany in the early 1900s, as per thegoodypet.com. The natives found that the wolflike animal was strong, intelligent, and loyal. A captain named Max von Stephanitz bred the German Shepherd initially into a working dog. The governemnt then favored the breed in their military. 

Stephanitz developed the standard for other German Shepherd breeds and promoted them in other areas. Thousands of German Shepherds were a part of the German military during World War I.

A male German Shepherd weighs up between 77 to 95 lbs and can grow to reach between 24 to 26 inches in height. The female one  can weigh up between 55 to 73 lbs and grow as tall as 22 to 24 inches in height. Their coat colours rang from black, sable, red and black, black and tan, black and silver, and gray
