Amazon Quiz (September 29, 2022): Which country plans to build NEOM – a futuristic, sustainable city with 170 km glass walls?
Options:
China
Japan
Saudi Arabia
Canada
Answer: Saudi Arabia
Neom, a futuristic megacity 33 times the size of New York City, is a combination of the Greek term neos, meaning “new,” and mustaqbal, the Arabic word for “future.”
On the Red Sea in northwest Saudi Arabia, NEOM is being constructed. The city is promoted as a fresh example of how to live, work, and develop sustainably. It is referred to as ‘the world’s most ambitious enterprise’ by Saudi officials.
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman announced the project and declared that the country’s 170-kilometer-long coastal strip in the northwest will be free of automobiles, streets, and carbon emissions.
This is a significant step in Saudi Arabia’s transition away from an oil-based economy because the smart city will be totally powered by clean energy. Nine million people will reside in connected civilizations governed by artificial intelligence that are intended to coexist with nature on The Line, which will be constructed in Neom.
Smart cities and towns, ports, business districts, research facilities, sports and entertainment venues, and tourism attractions will all be part of the $500 billion plan. The development will include a total area of 26,500 square kilometres and be divided into a number of zones, including logistical and industrial sectors. It is anticipated to be finished in 2025.
An international airport is one of the planned network of airports. The first, located in Sharma’s northern region and known as Neom Bay Airport, began offering regular flights for Neom personnel and investors in 2021.
