Anthony Fauci, who is United States President Joe Biden’s top advisor on the country’s health care issues, said that United States might get its own variant of COVID-19 if the community spread of the virus is not curtailed.

Fauci further stressed the importance of getting vaccinated against the disease in order to stop the spread and urged more people to get the shot while speaking to ‘Good Morning America’ host George Stephanopoulos on Thursday.

A day before giving the warning about America’s own variant, Fauci explained in an interview that if the people of the United States do not start using masks and get vaccinated, the country could be seeing 100,000 to 200,000 new cases a day, according to reports from ABC News.

“People who say, ‘I don’t want to get vaccinated because it’s me and I’ll worry about me, I’m not having any impact on anybody else,’ that’s just not the case”, Fauci said, according to reports from ABC News.

The warning comes along as the Delta variant of COVID-19 has spread its wings across the United States and is melting through, mostly, the unvaccinated population.

According to data released from the United States Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, 93% of all COVID-19 cases in the last two weeks of July, 2021 were caused due to the Delta variant.

According to reports from ABC News citing data from the US CDC, out of all eligible Americans, 67.9% have received at least one dose of the vaccine while 58.3% are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

About 93 million people across America, who are eligible to get the vaccine, remain unvaccinated due to which the national state average of many states has dipped below the national average.
