Amid growing cases, London Mayor Sadiq Khan declares COVID emergency

As London continues to record new coronavirus cases, Mayor Sadiq Khan declared a major incident on Friday. He warned that the hospitals in the British capital could soon be overwhelmed with the new cases relating to the new strain of the virus rolling in.

“I have declared a major incident in London because the threat this virus poses to our city is at crisis point. One in 30 Londoners now has COVID-19. If we do not take immediate action now, our NHS could be overwhelmed and more people will die,” London Mayor Sadiq Khan tweeted.
