Atlanta police on Wednesday launched a manhunt after a ‘gruesome’ stabbing in one of the most popular parks in the city. “Prior to Piedmont Park’s opening this morning (July 28), there was a fatal incident inside the Park near the Charles Allen gate. The Piedmont Park Conservancy is deeply saddened and our hearts go out to the individual’s family and loved ones,” the Park posted on its official Facebook page.
The police responded to the incident at around 1.10 am, local media reported quoting the police. Police officers found the body of a woman with multiple stab wounds in the park. The police are yet to identify the body, but the woman is believed to be in her early 40s, said media reports.

In its official statement, the police deputy chief Charles Hampton described the incident as a ‘gruesome attack’. The stabbing took place near the entrance of the park that opens up to the 10th Street.
Police haven’t released any details on the attacker yet, but have announced a reward of up to $10,000 for any information. The Park, which is still open, also encouraged people to call 911 if they have any information on the attack.
Police told media outlet Newsweek that they do not have any suspect information at this time, but the case is still being actively investigated.
The department is also carrying out a thorough canvas of the park. They will conduct another search once daylight arrives.
The killing has left people who use the park shaken and disturbed. The Midtown Neighborhood Alliance said extra patrols will be added to the park starting Wednesday evening, according to media reports.
