Bonuses to healthcare: What Sundar Pichai, Google parent company Alphabet are offering to laid-off employees
- Google has announced the elimination of 12,000 positions from its workforce
- Google employees who are laid off will be paid for the entire notice period
- Employees will also receive six months of healthcare
Google has declared that it will remove 12,000 jobs from its workforce in 2023, joining other corporations that have already done so. It has also provided support to the laid-off ‘Googlers’ as they seek new employment.
The layoff email has been issued to all affected US employees, however, due to regional laws and customs, the procedure may take a few days elsewhere.
“I have some difficult news to share. We’ve decided to reduce our workforce by approximately 12,000 roles,” Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet and Google, announced the decision to cut 12,000 positions from the workforce in an email to the affected workers.
“This will mean saying goodbye to some incredibly talented people we worked hard to hire and have loved working with. I’m deeply sorry for that. The fact that these changes will impact the lives of Googlers weighs heavily on me, and I take full responsibility for the decisions that led us here. Over the past two years we’ve seen periods of dramatic growth. To match and fuel that growth, we hired for a different economic reality than the one we face today,” he continued.
