Robert Lewandowski scored twice and set up two more goals as Bayern Munich cruised into the Champions League quarter-finals with a 4-1 victory over Chelsea in the second leg of their round of-16 tie on Saturday. In the other quarterfinal of the night, Barcelona defeated Italian club Napoli 3-1 to proceed to the quarterfinals with Lionel Messi and Luiz Suarez scoring a goal each.

Having won the first leg 3-0 in London, Bayern Munich were in cruise control of the tie. However, a resurgent Chelsea under coach Frank Lampard was aiming for a comeback. Bayern Munich’s striker Lewandowski converted a penalty and then set up a goal for Ivan Perisic in the first twenty-five minutes of the game thereby putting to rest any hopes of a dramatic Chelsea comeback.

Tammy Abraham managed to pull one goal back for Chelsea before strikes from Corentin Tolisso and Lewandowski wrapped the game for the home team. Bayern Munich defeated Chelsea 7-1 on aggregate to proceed into the quarter-finals.

In the second match of the night, the trifecta of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, and Antonio Griezmann combined to defeat Italian side Napoli.

Clement Lenglet of Barcelona opened the scoring for his team at the 10th minute with a header from an assist by Ivan Rakitic.

The second goal of the match was scored by Lionel Messi with a left-footed shot, Suarez scored the third goal for his team just before the half time and opponents Napoli scored in the final minute of the first half to make scores 3-1 for the night.

Having secured a draw at the Stadio San Paolo, Italy, both teams fancied their chances in the return leg on Saturday, but only Barcelona managed to capitalise on their chances and secured a place in the Quarterfinals of the Champions League.

The match ended 4-2 on aggregate as Italian giants Napoli bowed out of the Champions League.

German giants Bayern Munich will now meet Spanish juggernauts Barcelona on August 14 for a place in the semi-final of the Champions League.
