Wrestler Priya Malik has won gold for India at the 2021 World Cadet Wrestling Championship being held in Budapest, Hungary, and social media is abuzz with wishes for the young athlete. A special wish came from her namesake too. Actor and stand-up comedian Priya Malik took to Twitter to congratulate the medal winner.
She tweeted, “So pleased to find a namesake that the entire nation is extremely proud of! Well done #PriyaMalik Go champ ? #WrestleBudapest”

Priya Malik, the comedian, is a social media influencer with about 62.1k followers on Twitter, 337k on Instagram and 251k on Facebook. Her spoken word videos have been widely liked and shared on social media. She has acted in a few OTT projects also. The 32-year-old rose to fame after her participation as an industry outsider in the popular reality show Big Boss in 2016. She, however, exited the house after 7 weeks.
Her namesake, the Haryana wrestler Priya Malik, won at the summit in the 73kg women’s category. She got the better of Belarus wrestler Kseniya Patapovich in the final by 5-0 and clinched gold, becoming the first athlete to win a gold medal for India in the World Wrestling Championship. This comes after Mirabai Chanu made India proud at the Tokyo Olympics by winning silver in the Women’s 49kg category in weightlifting. Before Priya Malik, Varsha had bagged bronze on Thursday in the 65kg category in the World Cadet Wrestling Championship.

Haryana’s sports minister Sandeep Singh also took to Twitter to congratulate Priya and wrote, “congratulations to the wrestler daughter Priya Malik of Haryana for winning the gold medal in the 73kg category of the World Cadet Wrestling Championship in Budapest, Hungary.”
