Sir David Attenborough, an English broadcaster and natural historian by profession broke actor Jennifer Aniston’s record and reached one million Instagram followers in a little more than four hours.

The Guinness World Records confirmed that Sir Attenborough registered a new record on Instagram in four hours of him joining the social media platform. The 94-year-old naturalist surpassed the five hours 16 minutes record set by Friends actor Jennifer Aniston.

“I am making this move and exploring this new way of communication to me because, as we all know, the world is in trouble. Continents are on fire. Glaciers are melting. Coral reefs are dying, fish are disappearing from our oceans…The list goes on and on. But we know what to do about it, and that’s why I’m tackling this new way for me of communication.”

“Over the next few weeks, I’ll be recording messages to explain what the problems are, and how we can deal with them,” said Attenborough in his first message.

Sir David Attenborough had 2.7 million people following him in 24 hours. His first post received 10,257,883 views. The 2018 and 2019 Emmy awards winner will use the account to propagate messages about saving the planet and possible solutions for tackling climate change. Jonnie Hughes and Colin Butfield, from Attenborough’s Netflix film team ‘A Life On Our Planet’, are helping to manage the account.
