Denmark suspends use of AstraZeneca vaccines, Boris Johnson responds

Responding to Denmark’s suspension of the AstraZeneca vaccine developed with the help of Oxford University, United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that the vaccines were safe and that people should take the jab with confidence. He reiterated his point by saying that the success of the vaccine was demonstrated by the decreasing cases and deaths in the country after the vaccination drive.

Britain was one of the first in the world to start a vaccination drive against coronavirus that largely banked on AstraZeneca and some jabs from Pfizer.

It had also supplied the same to a few other European countries.

Denmark suspended the use of all AstraZeneca supplies after reports showed that the jabs were causing blood clots in a few people. Along with Denmark, Austria also suspended the use of the vaccine because a 49-year-old nurse died of “severe blood coagulation problems” after using the vaccine.

Besides Denmark and Austria, four other European countries- Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Luxemburg have suspended the use of the batch of vaccines that was sent to 17 European countries. The batch contained 1 million jabs.

The UK government maintained that the experts and advisors have constantly been in touch with their foreign counterparts over the effects of the vaccine.
