Denmark star Christian Eriksen collapsed on the pitch in Saturday’s Euro 2020 game against Finland in Copenhagen. However, the cause of his collapse is still unknown. After the incident, all the players and match officials had left the field as the player was stretchered off the field.

The match, which was suspended, due to a medical emergency, will resume at 12:00 AM IST.

After a brief time, UEFA, in a statement, confirmed that the player has been stabilised.

“Following the medical emergency involving Denmark’s player Christian Eriksen, a crisis meeting has taken place with both teams and match officials and further information will be communicated at 19:45 CET.”

“The player has been transferred to the hospital and has been stabilised,” the statement said.

The Denmark football team also provided an update on Twitter.

“Christian Eriksen is awake and is for further examinations at Rigshospitalet. The match is temporarily postponed,” an official statement said.

Earlier, UEFA Euro had said that the match was suspended.

After Eriksen collapsed, television pictures showed Danish players in tears as medical staff tried to revive the Inter Milan player, who suddenly collapsed near the touchline.

He was carried off on a stretcher. Eriksen was walking alone near the sideline in the 42nd minute when he appeared to stumble and then collapsed. His teammates rushed to him and medical staff was called immediately.

As the event unfolded, the players were seen in tears and formed a circle to shield Eriksen as the medical teams administered CPR on Eriksen.

The previously raucous crowd at the Parken Stadium in the Danish capital fell silent after the 29-year-old fell to the ground near the end of the opening period, with his teammates gathering around him.

The fans in the stadium, who were celebrating the chance to see their national team again live at the stadium, sat silently in their seats waiting for news of Eriksen’s condition to filter through.
