Trump on contempt charge: Investigated more than Jesse James, Al Capone
- Former US President Donald responded to contempt charges
- He blamed prosecutorial misconduct on part of New York Attorney General Letitia James
- James wants NY Supreme Court to fine Trump $10,000 each day he doesn't turn in documents
Former US President Donald Trump has blamed prosecutorial misconduct after New York Attorney General Letitia James pushed to have him held in contempt of court over Trump’s refusal to turn in documents.
Trump issued a statement, announcing he was a victim of “horrible and unfair political harassment and persecution and said James’ contempt charge violated his civil rights.
His statement also reads, “This is just a continuation of the greatest Witch Hunt of all time, by a failed Attorney General, who continues to use her office for political gain following a disastrous and embarrassing attempt to run for Governor”, adding, “This Democrat prosecutorial misconduct began the second I came down the escalator in Trump Tower, and has continued in an attempt to silence a President who is leading in every single poll.”

Further, Trump noted “I’ve been investigated by the Democrats more than Billy the Kid, Jesse James, and Al Capone, combined. This has been going on for years, and in all cases, I have been innocent…. Letitia James is no longer working as Attorney General, she is an operative for the Democrat Party in a political prosecution. New York has been through hell, and she is an embarrassment to our legal system”.
James, on Thursday, announced she was initiating legal action against Trump for failing to comply with a subpoena issued as part of New York’s investigation of the former president’s financial dealings. The motion for contempt, filed with the New York County State Supreme Court seeks to fine Trump $10,000 each day he refuses to turn in the required documents.

While filing the complaint, the NY Attorney General explained court intervention was being sought since nobody is above the law. James’ statement reads, “The judge’s order was crystal clear: Donald J. Trump must comply with our subpoena and turn over relevant documents to my office. Instead of obeying a court order, Mr Trump is trying to evade it.”
