‘Why?’ — three letters, one word, and a
galaxy of answers to your disposal! Such is the power of three letters, such is
the power of curiosity.

This year, as the world is fighting
one of its toughest battles against the coronavirus pandemic, striving to find
light at the end of this dark tunnel, people have searched for the most basic
question to exist – ‘why’. As the year approaches its end, Google has released
its annual ‘Year In Search’ for 2020, which gives a glimpse of the most popular
search terms and questions that people asked in the last 12 months.

Google’s Year In Search 2020 is a
mirror to people’s innermost fears, apprehensions, and desires to explore the
unknown in these uncertain times.

“The most human trait, is to
want to know why,” says the voice-over in the video, that has garnered
nearly 1.2 million views in two weeks. “And while we didn’t find all the
answers, we kept asking.”

As coronavirus took the world in its
crosshairs, COVID-related searches stole the limelight. One of the most
searched questions on Google was, ‘Why is it called COVID-19?’

Searches like ‘Why can’t I sleep?’, ‘Why
I am so tired?’ were a reflection of the mental state of people as they
struggled to get through each day with new crises piling on.

As people searched on for ‘Why is
Australia burning?’, ‘Why is the sky orange?’, it reminded everyone that
coronavirus is not the only pandemic threatening lives on this planet.

‘So why do we still have strength to
continue?’, said the voice-over in the video.

Searches like ‘Why is empathy
important?’, ‘Why do people dream?’ filled people with hope that we can get
through this. The world hasn’t given up on its will to fight the pandemic and
emerge as strong and healthy in the New Year.

“Until we get to every answer, we’re
still searching,’ said the voice-over ending the Google’s Year In Search video
on a heartwarming note.
