A shooting that took place inside a parked Greyhound bus in Oroville, California, on Wednesday night left one dead four injured, police have said.

While one person was pronounced dead on the scene, the other four have been transported to the hospital. Their conditions are currently unknown.

When police arrived at the scene of the crime, the suspect fled the bus and ran into a Walmart store in a shopping mall. According to 911 calls made from inside the store, Walmart employees reported that the suspect was “acting bizarrely.”

CBS Sacramento reported that there was no shots fired inside the Walmart store, and the suspect took off his clothes before trying to flee.

The suspect could not escape, however, as the police intercepted him and took him into custody using force.

The suspect was subsequently booked into the Butte County Jail and the firearm used in the shooting was recovered.

Prior to the suspect’s arrest, Oroville Mayor Chuck Reynolds had posted on Facebook warning people about an “active shooter” in the are. He later updated the post to inform people that the suspect had been arrested.

Commenting on the incident, the Mayor told CBS Sacramento, “I think that this is a changing world where life is not as precious as it used to be.”

As for the identity of the suspect, the KCRA News has reported that the Butte County Sheriff’s office will release details about the suspect after an investigation into the incident has been completed.

Greyhound Lines, the company that operates the Greyhound buses, also released a statement saying that it was “saddened” by the events that had transpired.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with all who were involved as we continue to work closely with local law enforcement,” the company further said.
