Happy Festivus: The ‘Seinfeld’ holiday that lets you ‘air your grievances’

Festivus, a non-religious holiday that was dreamed by American television writer Daniel O’Keefe in 1966 and popularised by sitcom ‘Seinfeld’ in a 1997 episode written by his son, Dan O’Keefe, is observed on December 23 every year to protest the commercialism during Christmas, as per CNN.

The tradition of this special holiday also calls for a special ceremony known as the ‘airing of grievances,’ where you get to tell the people in your life how they disappointed you.

Instead of decorating a tree or Menorah, Festivus is celebrated with an undecorated aluminium pole.

It is still unclear exactly how many people observe Festivus but the social media is flooded with people “celebrating” it with memes and jokes.
