Three people were killed and six others were injured in a suspected drone attack claimed by Yemen’s Houthi rebels targeting a key oil facility in Abu Dhabi on Monday. Two Indians and a Pakistani died after three tankers exploded at the Abu Dhabi National Oil Co., a state-owned energy firm that provides much of the wealth of the UAE.
Six people were also wounded at the facility, which is near Al-Dhafra Air Base, a massive Emirati installation also home to American and French forces.
A fire was also started at the Abu Dhabi International Airport, although damage in that attack could not be seen in the pictures. The Houthis claimed to use cruise and ballistic missiles in the attack, although they did not provide any evidence for it.
The attack brought the long-running conflict between the Iran-back Houthis and the UAE into the Emirates on Monday, with the Saudi-led coalition responding with a bombing campaign of Yemen’s capital Sanaa, which has killed and wounded a number of civilians.
