In Pics | World landmarks adorn Ukraine colours as crisis with Russia worsens
Landmarks across the world are being lit up in the blue and yellow of the Ukrainian national flag in solidarity with the people as Russia presses its advance towards Ukraine’s capital in Europe’s largest military offensive since World War II.
Tens of thousands of Ukrainians rushed towards the country’s borders seeking refuge, with some walking through the night while others fled by trains, buses or cars, clogging border crossings.
Nations like Poland are unconditionally accepting refugees from Ukraine, with nearly 120,000 having crossed the border already, the UN refugee agency said. Ukrainians have also entered countries like Moldova, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia and even Belarus – from where some of the Russian troops entered Ukraine.
The UN refugee agency expects up to 4 million Ukrainians refugees to flee if the situation deteriorates further.
