IPL 2021: Dhawan, Rabada fire Delhi to the top of the table, Mayank’s 99 in vain

Delhi Capitals defeated the Punjab Kings by seven wickets at Ahmedabad. Shikhar Dhawan smashed an unbeaten 69 off 47, while Prithvi Shaw (39) and Steven Smith (24) also chipped in as DC chased down a 167-run target in 17.4 overs.

Asked to take bat first, Punjab’s stand-in skipper Mayank Agarwal hit an unbeaten 58-ball 99, while debutant Dawid Malan scored a run-a-ball 26 as Punjab posted 166 runs. For Delhi, Kagiso Rabada dismissed three Punjab batsmen, including Chris Gayle (13).
Against the run of play, Punjab’s left-arm spinner Harpeet Brar carried on from where he left off in the game against RCB to dismiss the set Shaw on his very first ball which turned just enough to clip the off-stump.

For Punjab Kings, it was their fifth loss in eight games, summing up their inconsistent run so far.
