Jared Polis, US first gay governor elected, marries Marlon Reis

Colorado’s Jared Polis, who became the first openly gay man in the United States to be elected governor in 2018, on Wednesday married his longtime partner and first gentleman Marlon Reis.

Polis and Reis were married in a traditional Jewish ceremony. According to the governor’s office, the ceremony was attended by family and friends in Boulder. Rabbi Tirzah Firestone officiated the wedding.

It is reportedly said that the two have been together for 18 years and have two children, a 7-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl.

In December, Polis and Reis got engaged as Reis was preparing to be hospitalized after contracting COVID-19. Reis was released from the hospital after two days. Polis also caught the coronavirus but had only mild symptoms.

In a statement, the couple said, “The greatest lesson we have learned over the past eighteen months is that life as we know it can change in an instant.”

“We are thankful for the health and wellbeing of our family and friends, and the opportunity to celebrate our life together as a married couple,” the statement added.

Polis and Reis’ outfits were constructed from a high-tech polyester fabric, which replaced what would traditionally be wool. It also featured rayon for the liners and thread in lieu of silk.

Machete said the yarn was spun and the weaving was done in such a way that the suits attained the same crispness and drape as wool. 

It is also said that the lapels were made of satin and the suspenders’ stirrups were made of cotton.
