After Lionel Messi fired Argentina to their third FIFA World Cup title, the Central Bank of Argentina is considering putting Messi’s face on Argentine banknotes. A report by El Financiero, an Argentina-based financial newspaper, claimed on Wednesday that officials in Argentina’s financial body are considering putting Messi’s picture on the 1000-peso note.

As the figure starts with a “10,” the shirt number worn by the PSG forward, having his face there is reportedly favored by all officials.

It has also been claimed that “La Scaloneta,” the pet name of Argentine manager Lionel Scaloni, will be written on the back of the proposed chunk of cash.

This is in recognition of his accomplishments, which include winning the 2021 Copa America, the Finalissima match versus reigning Euros champion Italy, and the victory in Qatar.

The claim by El Financiero could not be independently verified by us. However, back in 1978 when Argentina won the FIFA World Cup for the first time, the country issued a special coin to commemorate the famous win. As a result, Messi’s face on the 100 pesos note is quite plausible given what he has achieved.

Messi played a crucial role in La Albiceleste’s triumph in Qatar on December 18, 2022. He played a crucial role by captaining the side in the tournament and also scoring in all the stages – right from the groups to the final.

His efforts made sure that the South American nation lifts the FIFA World Cup for the third time – the first since 1986 when the legend Diego Maradona took the trophy to Buenos Aries.

La Albiceleste defeated France – the 2018 FIFA World Cup winners, in penalties after the Qatar World Cup final match finished 3-3 at the end of extra time.
