Paris Saint Germain‘s Brazilian star Neymar has been ruled out of the side’s Champions League Group A clash with RB Leipzig on Tuesday. The club said that an adductor muscle injury, sustained during the World Cup Qualifiers with Brazil, keeps the 29-year-old out.

“Neymar had some pain in his groin since returning from international duty and will undergo more treatment over the next few days before returning to full training,” PSG said in a medical bulletin on Monday.

PSG played without Neymar in their Ligue 1 outing against Angers on Friday as the Brazilian was playing Uruguay. Neymar scored in Brazil’s 4-1win over Luis Suarez and company.

“The priority is always the health of the players. ‘Ney’ has a small issue which we hope will only keep him out for a few days,” PSG coach Mauricio Pochettino told reporters on Monday.

“Neymar Jr had some pain in his groin since returning from international duty and will undergo more treatment over the next few days before returning to full training,” PSG added in a statement.

Midfielder Leandro Paredes and defender Sergio Ramos are also ruled out of Tuesday’s game through injury, the statement said.

PSG are currently top of Group A with four points from two games, while Leipzig are bottom and have yet to pick up a point.

Neymar could also be a doubtful selection for the Ligue 1 giants’ next outing against Marseille on October 24. PSG are also set to play the French top tier’s defending champions Lille on October 30 and Mauricio Pochettino will hope to see the team’s top three Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar fire.

So far this season, Neymar has scored only once in his his first seven appearances across all competitions for PSG. He earlier admitted that the 2022 World Cup could be his last for Brazil as he struggles to deal with the mental strain of football at the highest level.
