North Korea warns of nuclear attack if Seoul continues to provoke: Report
- Kim Jong Un's sister made the threat to South Korea
- South Korea's military would be "little short of total destruction and ruin", the statement said
- North Korea has accelerated weapons tests this year
North Korea will have to attack South Korea using nuclear weapons if Seoul makes a preemptive strike, Kim Jong Un’s sister, who is also a senior member of the government, said in a statement. Kim Yo Jong also responded to South Korea’s recent comments about attacking its neighbor in the north.
Suh Wook, South Korea’s minister of defense, was slammed with crackling words from Kim Jong Un’s sister, who said that Seoul was having a “fantastic daydream”, according to state media.
Kim Yo Jung’s statement read: “In case (South Korea) opts for a military confrontation with us, our nuclear combat force will have to inevitably carry out its duty … a dreadful attack will be launched and the (South Korean) army will have to face a miserable fate little short of total destruction and ruin.”

Yo Jung currently serves as the Deputy Department Director of the Publicity and Information Department of the Workers’ Party of Korea.
“Preemptive strike against a nuclear weapons state? … This is a fantastic daydream, and it is the hysteria of a lunatic”, her statement added.
In another statement directed toward Suh on Sunday, Kim Yo Jong called him a “scum-like guy” and warning that the South may face a “serious threat” because of his comments.
The statement from Pyongyang also warned South Korea that the nuclear strike would leave the country’s military “little short of total destruction and ruin”. However, the step would only be taken if North Korea was provoked, Associated Press reported.
Her statements come amid tensions over North Korea’s accelerating weapons tests this year, including its first test of an intercontinental ballistic missile since 2017 on March 24, as her brother revives nuclear brinkmanship aimed at pressuring Washington to accept the North as a nuclear power and remove crippling sanctions, according to reports from Associated Press.
