Pat Cummins’ participation in the second Ashes Test is doubtful after the Australia captain was identified as a close contact of a COVID positive case, a source told The Sydney Herald. The report comes hours before the Aussies lock horns with Joe Root’s England in a day/night contest at the Adelaide Oval.

Cummins was at an Adelaide restaurant on Wednesday with another professional cricketer when a person at the next table was identified as a positive COVID-19 case, The Sydney Herald’s source claimed. Hence it is unclear if the bowler will be able to play the second Test.

As per the report, Cummins left the venue immediately and alerted the authorities.

Cummins not playing could be a huge blow for the Australian team that has already lost pacer Josh Hazlewood to a side strain.
On Wednesday, Cummins named Australia’s playing 11 for the second match of the series. Swing bowler Jhye Richardson was brought in for Hazlewood.
