Camilla, the Queen Consort of the United Kingdom, has reminisced about the times she spent with Queen Elizabeth II, the British monarch who ruled over the Commonwealth for 70 years. In a tribute video package filmed by the BBC for the past few months, the 75-year-old Queen Consort has said spoken about her late mother-in-law in fond terms. She said that she would remember “those wonderful blue eyes” of the late monarch, adding, “I will always remember her smile. That smile is unforgettable.”

Camilla stated that the late Queen has been a part of the royal life forever and that she “can’t remember anyone except the Queen being there.” While remembering Elizabeth II’s long reign, Camilla said, “It must have been so difficult for her being a solitary woman. There weren’t women prime Ministers or Presidents. She was the only one, so I think she carved her own role.”

During her 70-year monarchy, Elizabeth II was witness to three female Prime Ministers- Margaret Thatcher, Theresa May, and Liz Truss. The former monarch passed away only a few days after Truss met her for the first time after being elected Prime Minister.

After being named monarch, King Charles III named his wife the Queen Consort. In his first address as the monarch, the king said regarding his wife, “I count on the loving help of my darling wife, Camilla”. He further added,

“In recognition of her own loyal public service since our marriage 17 years ago, she becomes my Queen Consort. I know she will bring to the demands of her new role the steadfast devotion to duty on which I have come to rely so much.”
