Ronald Koeman, who had a 14-month-long journey with Spanish club FC Barcelona, was relieved from his position on Wednesday and left the fans of the team divided. While some celebrated the dismissal of the 58-year-old, others remembered the good moments he fetched for Blaugrana.

Some social media users were quick to move on from the firing of Koeman on Wednesday and discuss the possible managerial future of Barcelona. Fans kept in mind the manager was dropped in mid-season and a lack of oversight may be harmful to the team.

One Twitter user wrote, “Honestly I’m not surprised about the release of Ronald Koeman. No, not at all! Because I knew very well with his performances there, it was not going or could not continue like that.”

A tweet from sports journalist Fabrizio Romano sparked a conversation about who the replacement will be for the Spanish club, with the dominant names being Xavier Hernández and Roberto Martínez.

Romano wrote, “It’s gonna take few hours while negotiations are ongoing for Xavi to leave Al Saad & become the new manager.”

Barcelona’s team revamp also took many by surprise, who openly criticised the decision of the management. One user wrote, “Ronald Koeman was not given a fair chance at Braca imo. Sad what ended up happening there.”

Another Twitter user wrote, “Thank You very much @RonaldKoeman for everything you gave for this club as a player and the little as a coach. You will always be in our hearts as a Blaugrana.”

Multiple fans of the sport took the news to a completely new tangent and drew parallels between the case of Koeman’s and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the manager for English club Manchester United.

Club president Joan Laporta informed Koeman of his decision. He will “say goodbye to the squad on Thursday”, according to the official statement from Blaugrana.
