Operations at the Logan International Airport in Boston were disrupted on Sunday after an item suspected to be a bomb triggered a full-scale evacuation of Terminal A and a bomb squad investigation. The item was later found to be a PlayStation.

State police told the press that TSA agents, while screening luggage for a Delta airlines flight, found a suspicious item at around 4.05pm local time. Subsequently, the agents called the MSP Bomb Squad to the scene.

The squad then determined that the item was a PlayStation console, which was in a degraded condition due to age or wear and tear.

The condition of the console caused abnormalities in the image produced by the X-ray of the luggage, which prompted the suspicion among the TSA agents.

“I had a 6 p.m. flight and I was just getting to the airport. When I got out of the car, a bunch of people ran out screaming, so I got back in the car. I didn’t hear what they were screaming about. Then we drove around the terminals again,” Boston-based media outlet WCBV quoted a witness as saying.

“By the time we got back, Terminal A had been closed by the cops and I could see the people standing outside,” the witness added.

Witnesses gave various accounts of the incident: while some said dozens were seen outside the airport after the evacuation, others claimed they were asked to de-board their flights and evacuate the terminal.

Delta Airlines, meanwhile, has said that it will be conducting flights for as long as possible and will try and accommodate and re-book customers who missed their flights due to the delay.
