“TRUTH Social is currently beating Twitter”, Tesla and SpaceX owner Elon Musk wrote in a social media post on Tuesday. TRUTH Social, which will soon be a rival to Musk-headed Twitter, is owned by former United States President Donald Trump.

Elon Musk — currently the world’s richest person — posted a screenshot of the “Free apps” section of the Apple Store. TRUTH Social was ranked the number one in the list of five apps, whereas Twitter was at the number two spot and video-sharing app TikTok at number five.

TRUTH Social’s success was not just limited to the Apple Store. Hours after Twitter’s board of directors accepted Elon Musk’s offer to buy the microblogging platform for roughly $44 billion, the shares of TRUTH Social’s parent company surged by 4%.

Digital World Acquisition Corp (DWAC) is the Special Purpose Acquisition Vehicle (SPAC) poised to take former President Donald Trump’s Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG) public to the stock exchange.

Former President Donald Trump told Fox News that he will not be re-joining Twitter after Elon Musk’s takeover is final. He added that he will stick to TRUTH Social.

“I am not going on Twitter. I am going to stay on Truth,” Trump was quoted telling the network. “I hope Elon buys Twitter because he’ll make improvements to it and he is a good man, but I am going to be staying on Truth.”

Musk, who called himself a “free speech-absolutist”, explained his plans for the social media website. He said that the first step would be the privatise Twitter and make it platform that promotes free speech.

Musk would also relax Twitter’s content restrictions, and said he would be “very reluctant” to delete content and cautious of permanent bans, according to reports from Associated Press.
