Twitter to allow only five edits within 30 minutes: Report
- The new feature will allow users to edit a tweet five times within 30 minutes
- The feature will initially be available to Twitter Blue users in New Zealand
- US, Canada and Australia are next in line
Following Twitter’s announcement last week that a new edit feature is going to be introduced shortly, another update has been confirmed by the microblogging platform on Saturday. According to a report by TechCrunch, Twitter will only allow users to edit a tweet five times within 30 minutes to correct typos and add tags and upload images.

Initially, this feature will be introduced among Twitter Blue users in New Zealand. Twitter will use this limited launch to test the product and make necessary changes to it. After that, it will be rolled out in the US, Canada and Australia as well.
The limited launch of the feature comes in the background of concerns over misuse of the feature, especially related to political misinformation and crypto scams. This is also why the feature will be rolled out only among those users who pay $4.99 and subscribe to Twitter Blue.
When Twitter announced the edit button for the first time last week, it confirmed that all edited tweets will have a timestamp, icon and label which will clearly indicate that a tweet has been edited. Furthermore, Twitter users will be able to see if a tweet has been edited and check the edit history of the tweet.

Reports are saying that Twitter plans to study user behaviour with this new feature. However, for that to happen, the edit feature will have to be launched at a much larger scale and across different geographies.
Twitter also announced during the launch that it will roll out a cancel feature soon. This feature will let users cancel a tweet within 30 seconds of tweeting. The feature is expected to be rolled out in the next few months.
