Valdo Calocane: All about man charged in Nottingham stabbing of Barnaby Webber, Grace O’Malley-Kumar and Ian Coates

Valdo Calocane has been charged with the murders of Barnaby Webber, Grace O’Malley-Kumar and Ian Coates in Nottingham. The former two were university students while the latter was a school caretaker.

The three were stabbed in the early hours of Tuesday. Calocane, who has also been charged with attempted murder, left three people injured after running over them in a van. The 31-year-old will appear before magistrates on Saturday.

Webber and O’Malley-Kumar were fatally stabbed on Ilkeston Road. Coates was found dead with knife injuries on Magdala Road after his van was allegedly stolen. Calocane has been accused of driving the van on pedestrians.

One man was hit on Milton Street and was in critical condition. Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) NHS Trust spokesman said he was now stable.

Nottinghamshire Police Chief Constable Kate Meynell said, “These charges are a significant development and arise as a result of our thorough investigation into these horrific incidents that occurred in our city. Our thoughts remain with the families and friends of all those affected by these attacks, and we will continue to provide support and reassurance.”

Who is Valdo Calocane?

Valdo Calocane is a university graduate. He comes from a churchgoing family and grew up in Wales.

Calocane, as per reports, from Guinea-Bissau, West Africa. He graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering last year, according to a pamphlet about the ceremony published online.

Calocane was arrested at 5.40 AM on Tuesday on suspicion of murdering Grace O’Malley-Kumar and Barnaby Webber.

“We would also ask people to respect the families’ wishes for privacy at this difficult time to allow them to grieve. This has been an incredibly sad time for our city and county, and we stand united with our communities as we come to terms with the effects of what has happened,” Meynell added.
