Watch: Fire breaks out in South African Parliament in Cape Town
South Africa’s parliamentary building in Cape Town is on fire. At the time of writing this, official reports suggest that the fire started on the third floor but spread to the National Assembly chamber.
AFP reported a spokesperson saying, “The roof has caught fire and the National Assembly building is also on fire. The fire is not under control and cracks in the walls of the building have been reported.”
There is currently no indication as to what started this fire.
Jermaine Carelse, the spokesperson for the City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Service said that nobody has been injured and 35 firefighters are struggling to control the situation where the fire is threatening the integrity of the building’s roof.
