What was British billionaire Hamish Harding’s last post on Instagram before going missing as part of Titanic tourist submarine?
Hamish Harding, a world-renowned adventurer, was among five people who went missing Monday morning onboard a tourist submarine touring the Titanic disaster, his family reported.
Harding’s family reported the 58-year-old British billionaire was aboard the missing OceanGate Expeditions submarine on Monday, a day after he posted on Instagram about his excitement about the trip.
He wrote, “I am proud to finally announce that I joined @oceangateexped for their RMS TITANIC Mission as a mission specialist on the sub going down to the Titanic.
Due to the worst winter in Newfoundland in 40 years, this mission is likely to be the first and only manned mission to the Titanic in 2023. A weather window has just opened up and we are going to attempt a dive tomorrow. We started steaming from St. Johns, Newfoundland, Canada yesterday and are planning to start dive operations around 4am tomorrow morning. Until then we have a lot of preparations and briefings to do.
The team on the sub has a couple of legendary explorers, some of which have done over 30 dives to the RMS Titanic since the 1980s including PH Nargeolet.
More expedition updates to follow IF the weather holds!”
The missing OceanGate Expeditions submarine is being actively searched for, according to the Boston Coast Guard. For $250,000, passengers can visit the submarine’s wreckage 370 miles off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada.
Harding already had an exceptional travel history, having traveled to space on the Blue Origin mission last year. The trip to the Titanic was expected to be just the latest in this impressive list.
In addition, Harding holds three Guinness World Records for his courageous exploits. He was a part of the crew that set a record for the globe’s circumnavigation in 2019 to mark the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing.
