Where does Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor fall in the line of succession?

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their second child on Friday, Meghan gave birth to a healthy girl. The couple named the baby girl “Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor,” her first name, Lilibet is the Queen’s nickname and her middle name is in the honor of her grandmother. She is eighth in line to the British throne.

With the arrival of Harry and Meghan’s daughter to the family, the first seven places to the throne remain unchanged, the Prince of Wales, the Duke of Cambridge, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis, Harry, and Archie Mountbatten-Windsor. However, the Duke of York, who was born second in line in 1960, has moved down to ninth place now. Despite quitting royal life in March 2020, Harry has retained his place in the line of succession.

The baby girl will be known as Lili, she is the Queen’s 11th great-grandchild and the first of the monarch and great-grandchildren of the Duke of Edinburgh to be born since Prince Philips’s death in April. Lili has entered the line of succession at eighth place, just behind her older brother Archie.

Prince Harry and actor Meghan Markle married in May 2018 at Windsor Castle. A year later Archie was born.
