Emma Thomson, a Congressional staffer, died in a car crash on Wednesday. Two other people in the SUV, including US Representative Jackie Walorski and aide Zachery Potts, also died in the crash.

The crash happened about 12:30 p.m. when a car crossed the center line on a state highway and collided head-on with the SUV, according to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office.

Who was Emma Thomson?

Emma Thomson, 28, was a native of Johnstown. She was born to David and Linda Thomson, both of whom reportedly worked for Johnstown Area Regional Industries. Thomson grew up in Cambria County, Pennsylvania.

Thomson went to Bishop McCort Catholic High School and graduated in 2012, according to reports from The Tribune Democrat. She was also a graduate of George Washington University.

Emma Thomson had previously worked for House of Representatives member John Joyce, a Republican from Pennsylvania. Joyce also released a statement on Wednesday remembering Thomson, who served as Congressman’s communications director and campaign manager.

“For two years, I had the privilege and honor to work with Emma Thomson. Emma’s intelligence, creativity, drive, determination and humor were second to none”, Representative Joyce said.

In mid-2021, Thomson jumped ship and started working as a Congressional aide to US Representative Jackie Walorski, a Republican from Indiana. She joined her office as the communications director.

While not much is known about the car crash that killed Emma Thomson, Indiana law enforcement officers said on Wednesday that the incident is still being investigated.

Tim Cummings, the chief of staff of Representative Walorski, confirmed that Thomson was in charge of the Congresswoman’s outreach department too. Zachery Potts was her district director and the Republican chairman for northern Indiana’s St. Joseph County.

The crash also killed Edith Schmucker, a 56-year-old resident of Nappanee, Indiana. Schmucker was the sole passenger of the other car.
