Harsh winters are finally over and it’s the time to celebrate the beginning of the spring season that is marked by Basant Panchami also called the Saraswati puja by many. The festival is celebrated all over India differently according to the region. According to the Hindu calendar the festival is celebrated in the month of Magha and it also marks the beginning of the festival Holi or Holika that is soon celebrated after 40 days.

Goddess Saraswati is the Devi of knowledge, wisdom, art and music. The youngsters are introduced and welcomed to the world of learning, reading and writing. In the states like West Bengal and Assam Saraswati puja is held with uttermost faith and belief. 

People across India dress in yellow and white attire as it is the color of goddess saraswati’s saree and it also symbolizes the ripening of flowers and other plantations in the fields. Sweets, fruits and khichuri that is made up of rice, pulses and sugar is offered to goddess Saraswati first during the puja and then later on to family members, friends and their neighbors.
