The Tata
group-owned Air India on Thursday announced the appointment of Campbell Wilson
as the managing director and chief executive officer (MD & CEO) of the
airline. The 50-year-old has experience of 26 years in the aviation industry in
both full service and low-cost airlines.

Wilson will join Air India from Scoot, the wholly-owned low-cost subsidiary of
Singapore Airlines (SIA). Wilson is the current Chief Executive Officer of
Scoot. He was appointed the founding member of the airline on 18 July 2011.
Before his appointment, he worked for the SIA group for more than 15 years in
countries like Japan, Canada and Hong Kong.

Wilson is a
millionaire. His net worth is $2 million.

Born and raised
in Christchurch, Wilson pursued Business Administration at the University of
Canterbury in New Zealand. He is now a permanent citizen of Singapore.

Wilson started
as a Management Trainee with Singapore Airlines (SIA) in New Zealand in 1996.
He then worked for SIA in Canada, Hong Kong and Japan before returning to
Singapore in 2011 as the founding CEO of Scoot, which he led until 2016.

He would later
serve as Senior Vice President (Sales and Marketing) of SIA, where he oversaw
pricing, distribution, e-commerce, merchandising, branding and marketing, and
global sales, Tata Sons said in the statement.

Wilson’s last
day at Scoot is June 15, when he will be replaced by Leslie Thng, Singapore
Airlines’ current senior vice president of sales and marketing.
