Alibaba and Ant co-founder Jack Ma, on Wednesday, made a public appearance after months to end speculations about his whereabouts, reported Bloomberg.

The billionaire addressed village teachers in an online conference, as part of an annual event that he hosts to recognise the achievements of rural educators. His appearance was confirmed by people familiar with the matter.

Ma’s appearance comes as Beijing investigates into online finance titan Ant Group Co. and Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. Ma had disappeared from public eye in November when Chinese regulators torpedoed Ant’s $35 billion IPO and tightened fintech regulations.

This was followed by launching a separate antitrust probe into Alibaba as well as an overhaul of Ant.

One of China’s unusually vocal and outspoken tycoons, Ma had criticised the Jinping’s government’s financial regulators and state-owned banks in a speech in Shanghai back in October.

As per reports, his speech angered the Chinese government and it led to a clampdown on Alibaba’s business activities.
