In response to the invasion of Ukraine, Delta Air Lines is cancelling its contract with Russian airline Aeroflot.

Delta did book passengers on some Russian state airline flights, but it claims the codeshare deal will be terminated immediately.

The arrangement permitted Delta to book passengers on Aeroflot flights departing from Moscow and Aeroflot to book passengers on Delta flights departing from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and Los Angeles’ Los Angeles International Airport.

“We have removed our code from Aeroflot-operated services beyond Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport and removed Aeroflot’s code from Delta-operated services from Los Angeles and New York-JFK,” the statement from the airline read. “Accommodations will be made for customers affected by these changes.”

Politico was the first to report on Delta’s decision.

In 2004, Aeroflot joined the SkyTeam Alliance, a group of 19 major airlines that also includes Delta. Delta stated that it does not fly to Ukraine or Russia.
