Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Davos Agenda on Monday, January 17.

In his elaborate speech, the PM spoke of India’s progress and achievements on multiple fronts, including its COVID-19 management, economic growth, headway in entrepreneurship, and digital infrastructure.  

Let’s take a look at the key moments from his online address to the world leaders.

1. “India is celebrating its 75th year of Independence and also the administration of 156 crore vaccine doses in the country. India has gifted the world a bouquet of hope”

2. “In this bouquet, we Indians have an unwavering trust in our Democracy, we have the technology to empower the 21st century with the temperament and talent of Indians”

3. “India is fighting another COVID-19 wave with full alertness and caution while maintaining economic growth”

4. “India focused on reforms in the right way; global experts have praised India’s decisions and we will fulfil world’s expectations from us”

5. “Today, India is the 3rd largest pharma producer in the world. In the COVID times, we have seen how India following the vision of ‘One Earth, One Health’ is saving crores of lives by giving essential medicines and vaccines to many countries”

6. “In the previous year, the digital infrastructure developed and adopted by India have become its greatest strength. Aarogya Setu app and CoWin Portal are India’s source of pride”

7. “Today India has the world’s largest, safe and successful digital payments platform. In the last month alone, 4.4 billion transactions have taken place in India through Unified Payments Interface (UPI)”

8. “India was once known for licence raj; Today, we’re encouraging ease of doing business, reducing govt involvement in businesses”

9. “During this crisis, the IT sector worked round the clock. India is now contributing a record number of software professionals to the world. India has the world’s third-highest number of Unicorns”

10. “In 2014, there were a few hundred registered startups in India. Today their number has crossed 60 thousand with above 10 thousand of them registered in the last 6 months. More than 50 lakh software developers are working in the country today”

11. “India’s growth period of next 25 years will be green and clean, and also sustainable and reliable”

12. “On path to make India self-reliant, our focus not only on making processes easier, but also to incentivise investment and production”

13. “This is the best time to invest in India. The entrepreneurship spirit that Indians have, the ability to adopt new technology, can give new energy to each of our global partners”

14. “We have to accept that our lifestyle is also a big challenge for the climate. ‘Throw away’ culture and consumerism have made the climate challenge more serious. It is important for Mission ‘LIFE’ to become a global mass movement”

The World Economic Forum event will be held from January 17 to 21 and include addresses from various world leaders via video conferencing.
