Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries, is the world’s
10th richest person, followed by infrastructure tycoon Gautam
Adani at 11th place on the Forbes’ annual billionaires list. In a surprising
turn of events, Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, has dethroned Amazon
founder Jeff Bezos from the top slot this year.

In the 36th annual ranking of the world’s wealthiest people, there
are 2,668 billionaires, 87 fewer than a year ago. According to the 
publication, the ultra-rich have been hammered by “war, epidemic, and slow
markets.” On the other hand, 1,000 billionaires are now wealthier than
they were a year ago.

There are 236 new billionaires on the list, with America leading
the way with 735 billionaires worth a total of $4.7 trillion.

The number of billionaires in Russia and China has dropped
dramatically. According to Forbes, Russia has 34 fewer billionaires than last
year as a result of Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, and China has 87 less
billionaires as a result of a government crackdown on technology enterprises.

Young Billionaires

Forbes’ list of the world’s billionaires for 2022 also features 12
people under the age of 30, including four Stanford dropouts, two food delivery
magnates, and a bitcoin whiz. This group is worth a total of $25.8 billion,
accounting for less than 0.5% of the Forbes list’s 2,668 billionaires.

According to Forbes, the richest among them is Gary Wang, 28,
co-founder and chief technical officer of FTX, a cryptocurrency exchange
situated in the Bahamas.

Meanwhile, 19-year-old Kevin David Lehmann, who is worth an
estimated $2.4 billion, has been named the world’s youngest billionaire for the
second year in a row. According to Forbes, the teen received a 50% ownership in
German drugstore chain dm-drogerie markt from his father, who was an early
investor in the company.
