Indian
equity benchmarks were trading higher for the third consecutive session on
Monday, riding on the gains made by technology stocks, while investors anticipate
consumer price index (CPI) inflation data to figure out the pace of the Reserve
Bank of India’s (RBI) rate hikes.

The
latest monthly data on purchase managers’ index (PMI), goods and services tax
(GST) and direct tax numbers, and automobile sales were better than expected.

The Sensex was trading at
60,210.36, up by 417.22 points or 0.70% after trading in the range of 59,912.29
and 60,259.72. On the index, there were 24 stocks advancing and 5 stocks
declining, while 1 stock remained unchanged.

The broader indices were
trading in green with the BSE Midcap index up by 0.89% and the Small cap index
up by 1.06%. The top gaining sectoral indices on the BSE were IT up by 1.53%,
TECK up by 1.37%, Realty up by 1.33%, Basic Materials up by 1.26% and Consumer
Durables up by 0.95%, while there were no losing sectoral indices on the BSE.

The top gainers on the Sensex
were Tech Mahindra up by 2.77%, Axis Bank up by 1.80%, Infosys up by 1.75%,
Bajaj Finance up by 1.66% and Titan Co up by 1.61%. On the flip side, HDFC shed
0.24%, Indusind Bank 0.12%, Mahindra & Mahindra 0.10%, ITC 0.09% and NTPC
0.06% were the top losers.

The Nifty was trading at
17,951.75, up by 118.40 points or 0.66% after trading in the range of 17,889.30
and 17,970.60. On the index, there were 41 stocks advancing and 9 stocks
declining.

The top gainers on Nifty were
Adani Ports & SEZ up by 2.69%, Tech Mahindra up by 2.63%, Axis Bank up by
1.80%, Infosys up by 1.74% and Bajaj Finance up by 1.63%. Coal India down by
2.04%, Shree Cement down by 1.23%, HDFC down by 0.23%, JSW Steel down by 0.23%
and ONGC down by 0.11% were the top losers.

Asian markets were trading
mostly in green with the Nikkei 225 surging 327.36 points or 1.16% to
28,542.11, Taiwan Weighted strengthening 224.01 points or 1.54% to 14,807.43
and Straits Times advancing 7.24 points or 0.22% to 3,270.19.
