The stock market will remain closed on May 3, 2022, on account of Eid. Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE) won’t trade on the occasion of the public holiday of Eid-Ul-Fitr (Ramzan Eid).

Banks across India will also remain closed on May 3, 2022 on account of Bhagwan Shree Parshuram Jayanti, Eid-Ul-Fitr, Basava Jayanti, and Akshaya Tritiya.

Eid-Ul-Fitr is celebrated by Muslims across the globe to mark the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramzan. The festival is celebrated on the first day of Shawwal, the 10th month of the Islamic lunar calendar.

Apart from Eid, the stock market will remain closed for eight days in May due to the traditional weekly holidays. According to the list of holidays of the stock exchanges for 2022, there are a total of 13 trading holidays this year.

For the remaining days of the year, the exchanges will remain closed on August 9 (Muharram), August 15 (Independence Day), August 31 (Ganesh Chaturthi), October 5 (Dussehra), October 24 (Diwali, Lakshmi Pujan), October 26 (Diwali, Balipratipada) and November 8 (Guru Nanak Jayanti).

On May 2, 2022, the BSE Sensex fell 84.88 points or 0.15% to settle at 56,975.99. The Nifty 50 index fell 33.45 points or 0.20% at 17,069.10. BSE midcap index fell 0.47% and smallcap index fell 0.87%.

Among the sectors, capital goods, auto and IT indices fell a per cent each while buying was seen in power, metal, FMCG and realty stocks.

Major laggards from the 30-share Sensex pack include Titan Company, Wipro, Tech Mahindra, Infosys, Asian Paints, Maruti Suzuki, SBI and Kotak Mahindra. Among the gainers were IndusInd Bank, NTPC, PowerGrid Corp, Tata Steel and HDFC.

The rupee settled almost flat at Rs 76.51 against the US dollar.
