Major equity indices rose in opening trade on Thursday after plunging the previous two days, aided by foreign fund inflows and a generally favourable trend in global markets.

The Sensex gained 550.73 points to 59,579.64. Similarly, the Nifty rose by 156.1 points to 17,780.50.

The 30-share Sensex pack was trading in the green in early trade, with Asian Paints, UltraTech Cement, Bharti Airtel, ICICI Bank, Tech Mahindra, Infosys, Mahindra & Mahindra, and Bajaj Finance leading the way.

Asian markets are mainly trading in green with Nikkei 225 surging 559.84 points or 2.04% to 27,990.14, Straits Times rising 28.71 points or 0.89% to 3,239.54, Taiwan Weighted jumped 131.91 points or 0.92% to 14,541.96, KOSPI added 12.74 points or 0.54% to 2,389.20 and Jakarta Composite soared 74.98 points or 1.04% to 7,261.74. On the other hand, Hang Seng fell 90.60 points or 0.48% to 18,953.70 and Shanghai Composite was down by 4.68 points or 0.14% to 3,241.61.

The US markets had ended significantly higher on Wednesday. The S&P 500 rose 71.68 points, or 1.8%, to 3,979.87. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 435.98 points, or 1.4%, to 31,581.28. The Nasdaq rose 246.99 points, or 2.1%, to 11,791.90. The Russell 2000 index of smaller companies rose 39.68 points, or 2.2%, to 1,832.

On Wednesday, the Sensex fell 168.08 points, or 0.28%, to 59,028.91. The Nifty declined 31.20 points, or 0.18%, to 17,624.40.

The foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought shares worth a net Rs 758.37 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) sold shares worth a net Rs 138.67 crore in the Indian equity market on September 7, as per provisional data available on the NSE.

Meanwhile, Brent crude, the international oil benchmark, rose 1.05% to USD 88.92 a barrel. In early trade on Thursday, the rupee rose 27 paise to 79.68 against the dollar, mirroring its Asian peers and falling crude oil prices.
